Scrapbooking// Home is with You

We've been on the lookout for a new home for several months now. I guess we started looking seriously when we found out about the baby. Looking for a home has taught me a lot about myself--about the things that really matter to me. First and foremost, I want to live somewhere that feels safe. Somewhere I can leave the blinds open and let in a bit of sunshine. I would love to have a little yard for Dolly and Max, a room for a nursery, a room for my studio, and a nice big garage for Danny. Ideally, we would love a little modern farmhouse, with a bit of land and charm, but our picket fence dreams may have to wait a bit until we can afford them. With just four months to go until Max comes, I am hoping something works out soon. One way or another, home is wherever my little family is.

  1. I love this. One of my favorite movies is "Nicholas Nickleby," and one of my favorite lines is "You are my Home." I definitely feel the same way about my family. Especially since we move so much and are expecting to move again very soon, It's comforting to know that my home travels with me wherever in the country we might end up.

  2. You know, I've been having a very similar conversation with myself lately. I had a fabulous house in Utah -- the very first one I bought on my own -- and selling it to move cross-country has been something of an emotional roller coaster. I loved that space and grew so much there. Suddenly I find myself in unfamiliar territory. My once-familiar possessions aren't close by. My living space is smaller and I don't own it (OK, the bank and I don't own it). Then there is the matter of this other person and all of his stuff in my new living space. Talk about changes!

As I've pondered the "Etch-a-Sketch" nature of life these past 18 months, I've come to realize that just as you said, "home is with you." I had a house and it was a fantastic house, even a home, but my life is different now. If I always stayed in the same place -- physically, emotionally and/or spiritually -- I'd never grow and learn and change.

As much as I sometimes still mourn the loss of the house and as much as I whinge and moan about the growing pains that come with new experiences, I am so grateful that I get the chance to experience this new part of my life.

I am so excite to see how your life is growing and changing too, LJ. Wherever you live, as long as you have the people you love with you (and I'm including Dolly Bear as people here!), the shape of your space doesn't matter as much as who you share it with. Thanks for reminding me of this!

    Love you. :)
